It was a weekend of bests for Elias De La Torre during the Porsche Carrera Cup event at the Miami Grand Prix. It was also a huge success for the entire JDX Racing team. Not only did the team walk away with podium results in both races, but a 1-2 finish on Sunday right before the Formula One Miami Grand Prix let them show off their skills in front of the huge crowd there.

Elias had an incredible weekend, with his first top-five finish in the Carrera Cup North America championship. He made great strides in not only his results but also in all aspects of his race craft. Elias was challenged with hard-fought competition, including great restarts that created plenty of drama on the tight opening corners of the Miami layout.

It’s so rewarding to see the growth that Elias has had over the past several months. All the winter practice is certainly paying off, and with such a positive start early in the season, the sky is the limit! It’s a short week for him (and me!) before turning right back around to head to Laguna Seca for the next IMSA round. Elias will be making his debut in Lamborghini Super Trofeo, so he’ll be riding on a high note going into his first race of that series after such a great result in Miami.

Mazda MX-5 Cup will be also competing at Laguna, with rounds five and six of the season on tap. The margin of victory in that series has been a combined total of less than half a second (0.462 seconds) this season, so we can only imagine what to anticipate come next weekend on the rolling hills of Monterey.

Check back next week for updates on all of the action from Laguna!
