This past weekend was the SRO World Challenge event at Virginia International Raceway. It was exciting because not only is it my home track, but it was also the home event for one of the teams I was working with, RVA Graphics. I was also continuing my work with the Krugspeed team throughout the weekend. As expected, it was plenty warm at VIR with a couple of heavy afternoon showers sprinkled in. Despite that, the weather didn’t affect the racing.

The weekend got off to a fun start, as I got to help dial in the cars’ setup for the event and set reference laps to use as a benchmark for the event ahead. It’s always great when I get to drive laps around my home track!

Qualifying didn’t necessarily go as planned, but both teams were in a good position for the race days—each series has two races throughout the weekend. The RVA Graphics team came out of the first day of racing with the Hard Charger Award for passing the most cars in the race. It was great for them to get that honor in front of the home crowd!

Despite the first race not having the results Krugspeed had hoped for, Sunday was redemption day! The team came away with their second podium of the season in GT4, ending up with a second-place finish.

This was a really gratifying result as both drivers did a phenomenal job, not only driving but with their pit stop and driver change, too. The stop helped us undercut the field, so we were able to take advantage of strategy opportunities and put the team in a position to fight for the podium. The Krugspeed team is really gelling well, and this is our second podium result in just three events.

The series takes a “summer break” now, with nothing on the schedule for the month of July. I’ll be excited to be back at it with the teams in August!
