This past week I was in Sebring, Florida, for a beautiful week of racing with the International GT series. I was there helping out a few clients who drive with Goldcrest Motorsports. Reg Williams, David Herrington, and the other drivers on the team were starting off their 2023 season with this event, and I had the pleasure of coaching them in their season kickoff. We were greeted with sunny Florida weather, but it was also extremely warm for February, reaching 90 on some days!

We had done some preliminary work together on the sim with iRacing, which paid off when we actually got to the track. Not only were we able to do some lapping for familiarization in iRacing, but we also practiced race starts and passing drills, which really helped with preparation for the week ahead.

Once we arrived at Sebring, we got off to a great start with a productive test day, and all the drivers made great gains throughout the day. It was rewarding to work with these drivers, reviewing data and video after each session so they could focus on specific things in their next on-track outing.

Every driver on the team was in a different type of car, which presents a fun and interesting challenge for me because the capability of each car is a little bit different. The general rules of driving still apply to everyone, regardless of the type of car, but the specific nuances are where drivers can find those extra tenths of a second. In all, it was a great weekend for the Goldcrest team: I was so excited to see everyone achieve new personal bests throughout the weekend!

Reg Williams came away with a podium sweep in his three races, including two wins. One of those was the finale enduro win, in which I was happy to be Reg’s co-driver. It was a lot of fun being able to share not only the driving with him but also the camaraderie throughout the course of the weekend.

In all, it was a great start to the 2023 season for these clients, and I look forward to seeing their continued success this year!
