While I was at Daytona two weeks ago, not only was I racing in the Michelin Pilot Challenge Series, but I was also working with the Idemitsu Mazda MX-5 Cup Series. Wow, what a season opener it was!

(By the way, have you seen the NBC Sports/Peacock broadcast from the Michelin Pilot Challenge race? Here’s one of my favorite highlights you can check out in this clip from IMSA!)

We saw series regulars as well as new faces competing up front in the two MX-5 Cup races at Daytona. In fact, both races came down to near photo finishes, which is what we’ve come to love and expect from this incredible series.

As we know for championship implications, consistency is key, and already, there are some clear front-runners who will want to keep up the momentum they built at Daytona. At the same time, there were also plenty of racers looking for redemption come the next round!

Speaking of the next round, we are less than a month away from the St. Pete Grand Prix, where the series will once again join IndyCar in their season opener on the beautiful St. Petersburg street circuit. This race is like the East Coast version of the Long Beach Grand Prix, with tall high-rises lining the circuit on one side and the yacht-filled waterfront on the other.

If you didn’t get a chance to catch all the MX-5 Cup excitement from Daytona, you can rewatch the live streams here on the Racer YouTube channel.
