I just returned from the annual Sahlen’s 6 Hours at The Glen. What an incredible week we had, with lots of on-track excitement and plenty of summer heat to go along with it.

It was great to be at Watkins Glen with the TR3 racing team, which competes in the Lamborghini Super Trofeo series. My efforts were focused on team driver Dean Neuls, who competes in the Am category. Following a successful couple of tests that Dean recently had at Watkins Glen, we were very confident and motivated coming into the race weekend.

After navigating a couple of hurdles for the car during practice, we were ready to execute qualifying, which had its fair share of curveballs, including being shortened due to incidents with other cars. That left some work to be done come race time.

In race one, Dean experienced an issue with the car. Luckily, we were able to rectify it during the mandatory pit stop of the 50-minute contest, and he was able to regain lost performance. Dean managed to come away with a solid result.

Unfortunately, in race two, Dean was involved in a lap-one incident that took him out of the race. It was so disappointing after the high hopes we’d had following the successful test at Watkins Glen and a double-podium result during the previous round at Laguna Seca. Despite the poor results, we came away from the event more focused than ever on the key items to concentrate on moving into the second half of the U.S. rounds of the season.

The TR3 team, meanwhile, wound up with an incredible weekend result, sweeping both poles and race wins in the Pro categories and collecting many podium results in the various classes the team races in.

It’s always tough to come away empty-handed on such a promising weekend, but now we’re even more determined to continue pushing hard at the next opportunity.
