Last week’s whirlwind ended with some great success and sunny skies after a gloomy first day of testing at Mid-Ohio. I was there with the Sandridges—both Mark and his son Jordan wanted to get some quality laps in prior to their upcoming International GT race at Mid-Ohio in a few weeks.

Mid-Ohio is the home track for this family since they’re Ohio natives from just under an hour up the road. I was excited to be working with the team and their Porsche 911 Cup cars once again. However, it was my first time getting the opportunity to work with Jordan, who I was excited to have joining the fold since he had to miss the last couple of race events.

As mentioned, day one was unfortunately a bit of a wash—literally and figuratively—but day two welcomed us with beautiful sunshine and a dry, fast racetrack. It was a lot of fun getting to shake the cars down and get them into the setup window, which expedited the learning curve for both Mark and Jordan to get up to speed. We had a tremendous amount of quality laps throughout the day, which we’ve become accustomed to at the Apex One test events.

By day’s end, everyone had gotten an ample amount of seat time, and Mark and Jordan were able to extract great performance from the cars and their driving abilities. I’m excited to see this father-son team back at Mid-Ohio for their race in just a few short weeks’ time.

It was my first trip to Mid-Ohio this season, and my second trip isn’t too far away: I’ll be back this coming weekend for the next IMSA round, featuring Michelin Pilot Challenge and Mazda MX-5 Cup.

In the meantime, I’m back up at Watkins Glen for one last test with Dean Neuls before his next IMSA event with Lamborghini Super Trofeo in just a couple of weeks.
