It’s spring, which means it’s time for the annual Mitty at Road Atlanta! This coming weekend will mark the second time that Mazda has attended the event with its Heritage Collection, but this time, they’ll be running four cars for the first time ever.
Mazda is bringing out all the historic hardware, with the RX-7 GTO and three prototypes: the 767, 787, and 792. I’ve had the privilege of driving all of these cars before at various tracks, and this time, I’ll have the honor of piloting the 787. It was one of the factory entries at LeMans in 1990, and I last drove it at Laguna Seca in 2022.
To further the heritage theme, Tristan Nunez and Joel Miller will also be driving at Road Atlanta. These two were SpeedSource teammates of mine during the Mazda prototype era. We have many memories together, dating all the way back to 2013, when we began our Mazda factory careers.
Beyond the excitement of the cars and drivers, Mazda is also offering a special VIP experience for Mazda owners and special guests, and it will all be a part of the action throughout the weekend.
Cars are on track for practice and qualifying starting Friday, with races kicking off on Saturday morning and culminating on Sunday. Follow along on my social media as well as Mazda’s social channels to keep up with our weekend. I’ll have a full report for you next week!
