I recently wrote about how to stay focused during a break between races. Many racers have a break in their schedules right now, which means I, too, haven’t had as many races going at the moment.

However, I have had plenty of on-track testing and, even when I’m not at the track, I’m still able to coach virtually. This has been a great resource not just for myself but also for many of my clients. Having the ability to download and debrief with drivers after their event, or sometimes even before their event to identify a test plan and review pertinent track specifics, is an outstanding tool.

Virtual meetings mean that no matter where a client is in the country—or where I am for that matter—we can still meet and have an effective coaching session as I help them along their path for the season.

Just recently, a client of mine got a car that’s new to them. We had a virtual coaching session before their first shakedown, where we identified a list of things to check and test and even potential adjustments to make based on their findings. It was extremely valuable for them as they embarked on their first event with the new car.

Certainly, being trackside with several drivers for these types of events is something that I typically do, but if the schedule doesn’t align, this is an effective alternative, especially when we can debrief the week after the event. Then, we’ll summarize how things went and identify a new list of objectives moving forward.

I’m excited to get back to racing: next week includes a couple of test events in preparation for a busy few weeks after that.
