I just got back from a long week at Indianapolis Motor Speedway with the SRO World Challenge finale. It was the season-ending event for my drivers in the GT4 America category, and they had high hopes pursuing the championship, coming into Indy on the heels of the points leader in the AM category.

The week got off to a great start, with really successful testing and practice, where both the car and drivers showed outstanding speed. We were excited for the weekend ahead as we fine-tuned the car and the drivers—Kenny and Anthony—got those finer points down for a good lap at Indy.

After one of the season’s most successful qualifying efforts, which found both drivers starting inside the top three in class, everyone was excited for the races. Race one’s outcome, although it wasn’t a podium result, still saw them gaining points on the championship leader, making the margin even tighter heading into the final race on Sunday.

As it turned out, we were treated to wet conditions on Sunday morning, which was completely different than all the other days we’d had at Indy. It certainly threw us a bit of a curveball, but we were prepared and talked through all the nuances of not only the track specifics in the rain but also the car dynamics and all the adjustments that could optimize the car in the wet.

Both drivers rose to the occasion, with Kenny charging to the lead, taking point on the first lap and holding it throughout his entire stint. He handed the car over to Anthony, who had pressure from—as fate would have it—the current points leader. Anthony did a masterful job of holding him off and holding onto the lead to win the race!

Anthony and Kenny finished first, but the incredibly close result with the points leader meant they came up one point short of winning the championship. It’s hard to believe it wound up so close after an entire season!

But, in the end, the team and drivers executed flawlessly to win the race, and that’s all you can do on the final day. It was not only an exciting day, but a fantastic season, too, and I was really proud of the effort everyone put in to have such an incredible year.

I’m looking to take that winning momentum into my week at Martinsville Speedway! I’ll be racing there this Thursday during the Virginia is for Racing Lovers 300 MX-5 Cup race at the iconic “paperclip” track. You can find me in the Hendricks Motorsport/Racing to End Alzheimer’s MX-5. It will be an exciting event since we’re part of the NASCAR weekend, and we’ll have a new teammate joining us, as Earl Bamber has been announced to drive the other team car.

You can tune into the IMSA livestream on Thursday night at 6pm ET!
