I’m wrapping up a busy couple of trips, which were rolled into one big road trip for me.

My first visit was to Canadian Tire Motorsport Park—better known as Mosport—for the IMSA event, where I worked with the Mazda MX-5 Cup Series. We had very warm weather, and the competition heated up, too. Tyler Gonzalez became a five-time winner this season, getting the race one victory—in only 10 races, he’s been on the top of the podium for half of them!

There was a thunderstorm looming for race two, and the rain came just a couple minutes prior to the end, shortening the 45-minute contest due to a caution that really stirred up the results. That was especially true for the Rookie of the Year standings, as the top three tightened to within a narrow margin. Now, the series has a one-month break until it picks back up at Virginia International Raceway during the IMSA round there.

I also made my first trip to Road America, which I always look forward to at this time of year. It’s incredible to see the constant improvements that this facility makes, with continued paving in the paddock and a new drive-over bridge on the front straightaway. Most notably, there’s improved visibility through the famed kink now: that was achieved by moving back the inside wall for a better sightline.

Road America is beyond just a track: the entire facility always impresses me with its huge acreage and the constant strive for improvement.

While there, I was working with Dean Neuls once again. He was preparing for the Lamborghini Super Trofeo round coming up during the IMSA event at Road America in just a couple of weeks’ time.

The test we were participating in was hosted by Apex One, and we had a pair of phenomenal days. The warm, sunny conditions allowed us to have a very productive test, and we’re excited for Dean to get his first racing opportunity at this iconic circuit very soon.

Now, I have a quick turnaround before I head to Virginia International Raceway later this week for the next round of the SRO World Challenge season. After a two-month break following the Sebring round in May, I know everyone is ready to get back to the competition!
